In response to numerous questions about the recent “Annual Notice of Assessment” regarding property appraisals, the City has posted the following information it the website.  The City Staff is trying to obtain additional information and will make that available as soon as possible:

All property appraisals in DeKalb County, including properties located within cities, are developed by the DeKalb County Tax Assessors Office. Currently the City of Decatur has only received composite totals from DeKalb County indicating an overall increase in the real property digest for the City of about 2% — all in new value resulting from renovations and new construction. The information we currently have does not give us any information related to changes in the land and building values. We have calls into the DeKalb County Tax Assessor’s Office to try and get more detailed information. We will post updated information on this page as soon as it is available.
