The 31st annual event, “A Walk Down Main Street”, is scheduled for December 6-7, 2013 and will feature the Sycamore Historic District, Decatur’s original main thoroughfare. Tour proceeds support community organizations that help make Decatur a wonderful place to live: the Mary Miller Decatur Youth Fund, the Decatur Education Foundation, the DeKalb History Center and the Wylde Center.

The City of Decatur is in the midst of a 6 month pilot shuttle program (March through August 2013) on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for Oakhurst neighborhood residents age 60 and older to come to downtown Decatur thanks to a mini-grant from the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services. The shuttle officially began March 13, 2013 in partnership with DeKalb County Human Development Department Office of Senior Affairs, which already has successful Golden Shuttles in Toco Hills and Chamblee.
Several shuttle stops in Oakhurst will allow residents to come to the downtown Decatur commercial district to take advantage of services, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, medical and dental offices, public library, and government offices. It will provide access to entertainment and cultural opportunities at the Decatur Recreation Center, as well as on the square.
Riders must be Decatur residents aged 60 and older and register to ride the shuttle. Potential continuation of the shuttle will depend on the number of people who use it.
